The last year was a monumental roller coaster. The world as we knew it was turned upside down. Conducting business during an pandemic has been challenging in more ways than one. In 2020 the pandemic forced businesses to be adaptable, resilient, and fluid.

The Way Companies was no different. The entire team rose, confronted, and took control of the difficulties we were facing to the best of its ability. This took humility, commitment, and strength.

Jennifer Hinojosa (Way’s Marketing & Sales Director), shared her biggest challenges of 2020 and how she overcame them.

Jennifer Hinojosa, Marketing and Sales Director

How would you describe 2020?

“It was an unprecedented time was for all of us! Sometimes it was all the feels at once–happy, sad, scary, light-hearted, and then heavy. You name it, we felt it. We had to learn to sit and be still…to give ourselves grace and adjust, because we could not control what was happening around us.”

How did it affect your department/business and what did you learn?

“In business, we were given little time to falter. We had to adjust, we had to throw our planned items out the window and reassess W-I-N (What’s Important Now.) For Marketing, our focus was to get our company completely familiar and up to speed on using new technology platforms. 2020 changed the way business is done, and it was our job to ensure the rest of the organization knew we had the right tools in place to keep going! We spent hours training and assisting teammates near and afar. We role played and practiced how to effectively use new platforms to conduct business calls (sales team) as well as team calls (internal). I think we uncovered that we can be just as productive with our teammates both locally and in remote offices utilizing this technology! This was a huge win for us as a company.

Another key take-away was reiterating the importance of Communication. While our prospects and customers were also focused on how to keep their businesses running, we knew that communication was most important. We altered our marketing campaigns to focus on communication with our customers. It was critical to let them know we are here, we are open, we are taking precautions, we have solutions. Our goal was to keep our team members safe while continuing to operate their facilities. We are always thankful for our customers and partners but this year the word Gratitude took on a whole new meaning for us at Way.

We focused on themes and specific topics, rather than just random posting or sharing. We built content that was relevant to the current landscape (pandemic). Our goal was to be a resource while also generating interest for new business opportunities.

It’s been our past experience that had helped us to be prepared for all this year has brought. There is no such thing as luck just hard work, dedication and preparation.”
